Fundamental Skills 3

Introduction

Fundamental Skills 3 is a cognitive analysis of the cognitive skills that most influence students' learning.

The test can be administered in two ways:

1. From school ("face-to-face").

2. From home (remote). It is very important to explain to parents not to help their child, because it may not reflect the desired answers.

For both options, it is suggested to consult the following application manuals:

If you are administering the test for the first time, please read the following instructions carefully.

General test considerations

Objective: To measure the 9 main cognitive skills that condition fundamental learning.

Benefits:

  • To suggest appropriate methodologies that lead to the development and strengthening of logical-verbal and logical-mathematical reasoning skills, as well as basic reading.

  • To offer parents specific recommendations according to their child's results in each skill area.

  • To guide the school with suggestions and guidelines to enrich or remediate skills within the academic curriculum.

  • To promote skills that favour lifelong learning, excellence and educational inclusion.

Aimed to students from 4th grade to adults.

Duration of the test: 30-45 min.

Application: Group and individual.

Specific considerations about the application

  1. It is carried out in a single session.

  2. Once the students have been selected from the list that appears on the platform, but without starting the test, the following instructions must be given:

  • You are going to take a test that allows the school to know the level of your intellectual skills. (We can explain, in general terms, that the skills we are going to evaluate are the tools you use to acquire knowledge).

  • It is not an academic test; therefore, it will not affect your grades.

  • You will complete a series of challenges. Each challenge has a maximum completion time. You will not be able to move on to the next challenge just because you finish first, so you should concentrate and not be in too much of a hurry to finish.

  • Before starting each exercise you will have a brief explanation with an example that will help you to understand what you have to do. Make sure you understand it before you start. If you have any doubts, ask the person in charge of the application. Time goes by as you read the explanations.

  • Don't worry if you don't know how to do something. The important thing is that you try your best.

  • We will start at the same time and read the instructions of the first challenge together in order to explain how the platform works.(The following questions should be answered: How do you read the instructions? Where does the time countdown appear? How will you move from question to question?)

  • It is very important to maintain an atmosphere of respect and concentration. For this, it is essential to be silent in the classroom and to raise your hand if you want to ask any questions.

  • When you finish, you must remain silent until the rest of your classmates have finished, so as not to interrupt their concentration.

NOTE: Students should make an effort to read and understand the instructions themselves. If this is the first time they have taken this or similar tests, it is recommended that they are accompanied in reading the first exercise. During the instructions and examples, the necessary support can be given to ensure the student's comprehension. However, once the exercise has begun, DO NOT GIVE HINTS OR HINTS TO INCITE THE CORRECT ANSWER.

If the test is taken at home, explain to parents that they should not help their children to solve the test, as this will compromise the results.

3. The example of the first exercise should be done together using the demo user (a.k.a. Pepe pruebas) and projected on a large screen. It is important to make sure that the learners have understood before they proceed independently.

The functionality of the platform can be presented there:

  • First of all a time countdown appears.

  • You can read the instructions again, but the time will continue to run.

  • The green arrows allow you to navigate between questions. The mouse wheel does this as well.

  • At the bottom, the number of questions in the challenge is displayed.

  • When the time is up or when you click "I'm done", the next challenge will automatically start.

4. The student will then start the test individually after confirming the data and clicking "start".

  • It is necessary to supervise the students in order to ensure silence and provide support if needed.

  • The teacher or person in charge of the application should expect that, although there is an average duration, as there is no time limit, there will be students who finish faster than others. Anticipate what they should do once they have finished, so that the noise does not cause interruptions or difficulty in concentration for those students who have not finished.

5. When the student finishes the test, the following message will appear:

The student must click on "exit" to close the session. The student may be asked to leave or stay in the classroom until the rest of the class has finished.

6. The results will be processed immediately and are ready for review. Users with the following assigned profiles within the platform will be able to log in to consult them: director, counsellor and teacher.
